COMPUTERS to SCHOOLS IN TANZANIA The Rotary Club of Chelmsford Mildmay is organising a project to send recycled computers from Essex schools and businesses to Tanzania, Africa. The scheme, which is run entirely by volunteer Rotarians and professional partners, will support pupils in Tanzania who, without access to computers in the 21st century, would be disadvantaged in their education. The entire operation, from the collection of the computers (including PCs, laptops and Apple Macs), to the clearing of hard drives and shipping to Tanzania, followed by internal distribution, will be carried out under the expert supervision of IT specialists who are familiar with data protection and waste disposal requirements. Supporters of the project can, therefore, rest assured that their donation of computer equipment will be handled competently from start to finish. Even the arrival of the computers in Tanzania will be overseen by a Rotarian! There is no charge to donors for the refurbishment of donated computer equipment. Getting hard drives ‘wiped’ can be costly but this will be undertaken by the Rotary Club and trusted partners from Anglia Ruskin and Greenwich Universities. We would be pleased if donors could deliver unwanted equipment to the Marconi Athletic & Social Club, Beehive Lane, Chelmsford, CM2 9RX if at all possible. If this is not possible, the Rotary Club can arrange collection from within a 20 mile radius of Chelmsford. We would ask potential donors to send us an email with details of the equipment being offered, and their contact details. To do that click HERE to download a pro-forma Word document to your computer, then follow the instructions it contains. Further email enquiries can be made to: computers@mildmayrotary.org
